Imphal: The Revolutionary People’s Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK PRO) on Thursday claimed responsibility for the blast that killed an Assam rifles trooper and injured another jawan in Manipur’s Thoubal district.
Th. Eshingchaoba, Assistant Publicity Secretary, PREPAK (Pro), in a statement here said Wednesday’s IED blast at Lilong Ushoipokpi was triggered by the Cobra Task Force-3 of PREPAK(Pro).
The statement sympathised with the “sadness and grief” of the two troopers’ families.
Two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the Northeastern state, the militant group appreciated – without taking any names- that many centrally sponsored schemes were being implemented while leaders were frequently touring Manipur.
“Indian leaders appreciated the bravery and courage of our forefathers, but they never explained the root causes of the burning ‘so-called insurgency’ issue. Many centrally sponsored schemes were implemented and many leaders are frequently visiting to look after Manipur which is somewhat appreciable,” the statement said.
In the blast that took place on Wednesday, Rifleman L Wangshu (30) of Arunachal Pradesh died while Pinku Das (28) of Tripura sustained injuries. He was undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
The blast occurred when a Road Opening Party (ROP) of 16 Assam Rifle E Company was resting in the area after taking lunch.
