North East MPs urge Mizoram & Assam for peace

The Forum termed the recent development on the Mizoram-Assam have been a cause of great anguish and regret to the people of the North East.

Shillong: The North East MPs Forum (NEMPF) on Friday appealed to both the Mizoram and Assam government to adopt conciliatory steps to ensure peace and tranquility along the border.

In a statement issued by NEMPF Chairman Kiren Rijiju and Secretary General Vincent H. Pala, the Forum termed the recent development on the Mizoram-Assam have been a cause of great anguish and regret to the people of the North East.

“The loss of life and injury on both sides is shocking and regrettable consequence, and we wish to extend our condolences to the affected families. We must seize the right lessons from this unfortunate occurrence – violence and hostility only lead to loss,” they stated.

Appealing to Mizoram and Assam governments to come together with the honest aim of resolving the long pending dispute, the NEMPF said, “We believe that for this resolution to be fruitful, the amicable participation of all stakeholders is crucial, and we look forward to seeing the restoration of cordial harmonious neighbourly relations between the two states.”
