Night curfew lifted in Meghalaya, Covid-19 cases declines

Shillong: Night curfew, which had been in force in Meghalaya since the outbreak of the Omicron variety of the Coronavirus, was lifted from Friday with the rate of daily infection in the state on a steady decline.

The government has also announced that schools would be fully functional from Monday (February 14), including classes 1 to 5 and fully vaccinated persons would not be required to produce Corona test reports at entry points to the state.

On Friday, the state recorded more cases of recovery at 172, which surged the number of recovered cases to 90360 than new cases of Covid19 infection at 81, with the number of active cases declining to 928 in the state, which has so far registered 92847 confirmed cases of Coronavirus infection, as per a report received from the health and family welfare department.

One more death due to Covid19 related complications increased the fatality figure to 1559 in the state on Friday, as per official information. The new Covid19 cases detected in the state today included 36 in the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, even as the number of active cases came down to 359 in the district.

On the other hand, the West Garo Hills recorded 19 new Covid19 cases and 43 cases of recovery on Friday with the number of active cases in the district coming down to 151, while the other districts reported cases in single digits, as per the latest official case count.

Meanwhile, 32109 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against Covid19, 29354 have been administered with the second dose and 5922 have taken the third precaution dose, while, 96992 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose, 85224 have received the second dose and 14521 have got the precaution shot.

Even as 1219184 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 827869 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 2597 citizens have taken the booster dose across the state as on date, according to the National Health Mission record.
