National sports day 2026 celebrated in Chandel

Chandel: National Sports Day 2026 was celebrated with enthusiasm in Chandel district today with a “Cycling for Fitness & Unity” rally, embracing the national call of “Ek Ghanta Khel Ke Maidan Mein.” The celebration was organised as part of the Nationwide Celebration of Sports, Spirit & Unity under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, on the theme “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat.”

The programme was jointly organised by MyBharat Chandel, Department of Physical Education & Sports, South East Manipur College (SEMCO) and United College, Chandel along with the National Service Scheme (NSS) Units and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of SEMCO and United College, in collaboration with Kapaam Development Club (KDC) and Kapaam Cycling Club (KCC).

The cycling rally was flagged off by Dr. Steven Chara, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education and Sports, SEMCO, from Kapaam (Komlathabi) and concluded at Chandel Christian Village. The participating cyclists carried the message of fitness, healthy living, sportsmanship and national unity.

As a mark of appreciation and encouragement, all participating cyclists were felicitated with token medals. The initiative sought to promote sports and fitness, encourage healthy lifestyles and greater youth participation, and strengthen community engagement.

The celebration also commemorated the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary Indian hockey player, in a befitting manner, highlighting the importance of sports in fostering discipline, unity and a healthy society.

Programme Officers of the NSS Units of SEMCO and United College, students, NSS volunteers, youth club members and cycling enthusiasts participated in the rally.
