Imphal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Manipur has expelled its chief spokesperson, Chongtham Bijoy, for six years ‘for violation of the party’s rules and regulation,’ here on Thursday.

Bijoy, who has been associated with the party for over 25 years, has been expelled from the party’s primary membership for six years for violation of the party’s rules and regulation under Article XXV amd breach of discipline clause (b) and (d) of its constitution, said a statement issued by the party president, A Sharda Devi.

Bijoy wanted to contest the upcoming Assembly election from Uripok assembly constituency, but was denied a ticket.

He alleged that L Raghumani, a retired IAS officer, despite being ‘corrupt’, got the ticket at the instance of the RSS.

Reacting to his expulsion, he said that he was expelled by some ‘self-centric leaders’ without following proper procedures. He also said that he worked for the BJP for the past 27 years in various capacities being a lover of the party’s ideology. The BJP has now compromised its own ideology and commitment, he charged.

After the denial of the party’s ticket, Bejoy recently threatened that he would press the NOTA (None of the above) button on voting day. With agency inputs
