Kohima: All the banks in Nagaland will shut down for two days from tomorrow in support of the 2-day country-wide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) on March 15 and 16.

Nagaland branch of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation sources informed that all banks in Nagaland, including private sector banks, will cease work on March 15 and 16 under the banner of the Nagaland state unit of the UFBU. The bankers will rally at three different centres- SBI Regional Business Office (RBO) in Dimapur, SBI RBO in Mokokchung and SBI Kohima main branch on the assigned dates.

The UFBO has been protesting against the proposal to privatise Public Sector Banks (PSB) while demanding to strengthen Public Sector Banks. Sources said that privatising Public Sector Banks will negatively impact banking in the country, particularly in terms of coverage. While citing the instance of PSBs having branches even in the remotest of places, sources said that PSBs will go where no private bank would go.
