Gangtok: The Sikkim government will engage a multi-disciplinary expert team to inquire into the causes of the collapse of the Chungtham dam following the abrupt eruption of the South Lhonak Lake in the northern part of the state, a top official said on Tuesday.

Responding to questions about the possibility of arms and ammunition causing damage to the Dam, Pathak maintained there was no such report.

“When the gushing water was flowing downstream the ammunition could not have exploded,” said Pathak, also the Chief Executive Chairman of the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA).
