Gangtok: Health Department State Govt has declared Mucormycosis as a notifiable disease in Sikkim,in keeping with the Epidemic Disease Act 1897.

Fortunately, no Mucormycosis case has been reported in the State so far. Excess of steroids should be avoided, while self medicating. Uncontrolled diabetes with COVID sometimes lead to Mucormycosis, said Dr Pempa Tshering Bhutia.

The preventive step has been taken at the behest of the Union Health Ministry. All the suspected and confirmed cases will be reported to the Health Department to curb and control the rising trend of the disease in the country, says Secretary Health.
