Ukhrul: Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles extended prompt humanitarian assistance in two separate medical emergencies, underscoring its role in safeguarding the health and well-being of communities in Ukhrul District, Manipur.
On 16 September 2026, personnel at Shakpao COB responded swiftly to aid Omni Kashung, a 25-year-old resident of Lungphu Village, who sustained a deep cut from a corrugated galvanised iron (CGI) sheet while engaged in household work. The injured villager was immediately brought to the COB, where the Nursing Assistant assessed his condition, controlled the bleeding, sutured the wound and administered appropriate medication. He was further advised on precautions to ensure proper recovery.
In another incident on 17 September 2026, Assam Rifles personnel facilitated urgent medical care for Themreila Keishing, a 27-year-old pregnant woman from Sorathen Village near Sorde. While being taken to Ukhrul District Hospital for delivery, she went into spontaneous labour and delivered a baby girl inside a vehicle near RP Gate, Shangshak Battalion. Recognising the emergency, troops swiftly moved her to Unit Hospital, Shangshak, where the Chief Medical Officer provided immediate postpartum care to both mother and child before referring them to a higher medical centre for continued management.
The timely interventions by Assam Rifles personnel ensured critical medical support in both the cases, preventing complications and reflecting the Battalion’s enduring bond with the local population through compassionate service.
