Imphal: Congress leader K. Meghachandra Saturday urged Chief Minister N Biren Singh to immediately start functioning of ICU beds in Thoubal District Hospital.
Thoubal District Hospital, which is a 100 bedded hospital, has been equipped with ICUs, ventilators, anaesthesiasts, and other doctors. However, the ICUs are not functioning. As a result, many lives are being taken away due to Covid owing to the absence of functioning ICU facilities in the district, said the MLA of Wangkhem Assembly constituency.
The lawmaker strongly demanded the immediate functioning of ICUs in the district hospital to save human lives from the second wave Covid pandemic in the state.
“I urge Hon’ble CM @NBirenSingh to ensure the immediate functioning of ICUs in Thoubal District Hospital, which has 5 out of 7 sanctioned ventilators, anaesthesiasts, doctors & staff, to save lives from covid pandemic. Non-functional ICUs has taken away many lives,” Meghachandra tweeted.
It is learned that out of seven ventilators that were sanctioned for Thoubal District Hospital, there are only 5 ventilators in the district hospital currently. The 2 ventilators are said to have been taken back by the state government.
