Aizawl:  As the Covid-19 cases continue to rise, the Mizoram government Saturday announced a complete lockdown to curb the further spread of the virus.

The Mizoram government has imposed a 7-day total lockdown in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, as a majority of new cases have been reported from there. The order issued on Friday, July 17, stated that the total lockdown in the AMC area will come into force from July 18 till July 24 at midnight.

Essential services like water and electricity supply, medical services, hospital, dispensaries, pharmacies, vaccination, LPG distribution, filing stations, among others, will function normally and all commercial vehicles will cease to operate during the complete lockdown.

The movement of people, including the casual visits of neighbours or relatives residing in the same building complex is strictly prohibited during the period, the order said. Similar lockdown or other stringent restrictions might be imposed in other parts of the state by the Deputy Commissioners, depending on the Covid-19 situation, the order further said.
