Imphal: You call it a genuine mistake or utter ignorance of a practices marriage ceremony, ritual of the Vaishnavite Meiteis, the mainstream Indian media, the Mirror Now, an English-language news channel owned by The Times Group, called Randeep Hooda and Manipur’s Lin Laishram’s recent wedding a Nepali marriage.
Hooda, a Bollywood actor, who rose to fame with his portrayal of a police officer in the gangster drama ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’, tied the knot with his long-time actor-girlfriend Lin Laishram in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur on November 29, last week.
A trained archer and former junior national champion turned actor-model, Laishram was born on December 19, 1985, in Imphal. She has appeared in critically acclaimed films like Om Shanti Om (2007), Mary Kom (2014), and Jaane Jaan (2023).
Reporting on the marriage of the Bollywood couple, the Mirror Now claimed that the wedding was a traditional Nepali marriage, which amounts to misleading and misinforming the rest of the country as well as the whole world.
“Actor Randeep Hooda and Lin Lin Liashram tied the knot on November 29 following a traditional Nepali marriage. Randeep Hooda has made his fans awestruck by sharing their wedding videos and pictures,” the news channel said on its X handles (formerly Twitter).
“No! It’s not a Nepali marriage. It was a traditional Manipuri Marriage. @Armchair Editor: Please verify and re-verify facts before presenting them as news. You gotta responsibilities towards society. Else! There are hundreds & thousands of jobs to earn money,” one Anup Das wrote in X.
One Alhaz Khokhar wrote: I am not surprised. A national TV channel calls “Manipur Tradition” as “Nepali Tradition” Wow!!
What kind of Journalism is the Mirror Now practicing, who is going to own up to this irresponsible and lazy reporting that did not find it necessary to carry out even bare, basic research?
