Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma told the assembly on Monday that the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA) was examining the proposal sent by the Meghalaya Government on the of implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in the State.

Replying to a question raised by Congress legislator Process T. Sawkmie, the Chief Minister said that the government has sent multiple reminders to the MHA regarding implementation of ILP and the State Government is perusing the matter.

During the Union Home Minister’s visit to the state in 2021 a memorandum was also submitted by the government, he said.

He stated that the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to implement ILP is important and the State Government is perusing and hoped that a logical conclusion is reached regarding the issue.

Sawkmie suggested that the chief minister should go along with all 60 legislators to meet the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister in New Delhi and urge them for implementation of ILP system in the state as all members of the assembly had unanimously passed a resolution demanding the same in December, 2019. The Chief Minister said he has noted the suggestion and would examine the matter.
