Meghalaya registers 211 new COVID cases

As 74 more cases of recovery from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 83,740.The state has so far registered 86,358 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1490 cases of fatality.

Shillong: Meghalaya registered 211 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day spike so far, on Sunday, surging the number of active cases to 1128, the health officials said. 

As 74 more cases of recovery from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 83,740.The state has so far registered 86,358 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1490 cases of fatality. 

The maximum cases were detected on Sunday were at the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, with the number of active cases rising in the district to 886 and the death toll due to the viral infection at 1013.

While 18 new COVID-19 cases were detected on Sunday in the West Garo Hills district, which now has 95 active cases, 14 in the East Jaintia Hills district, which has 24 active cases, five in the West Jaintia Hills district, which has 21 active cases, four in the Ri-Bhoi district, which has 63 active cases, three in the West Khasi Hills district, which has 15 active cases, two in the North Garo Hills district, which has four active cases and one case each was detected in the East Garo Hills district and South West Garo Hills district, which have three and four active cases respectively, according to the latest official case count.

Meanwhile, of the 12,87,217 persons tested for Covid-19 in the state till Sunday, 12,00,859 were tested negative for the virus, the Covid dashboard reflected.

On the other hand, 32,106 health care workers have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 29,240 have been administered with the second dose and 3,721 have got the third precautionary dose, while 96,984 front-line workers have got the first jab, 84,917 have taken the second shot and 6,400 have got the third booster dose.


Even as 11,50,680 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 7,98,615 have been vaccinated with the second dose and 348 have taken the third precautionary dose across the state till date, health officials said.
