Meghalaya records seven COVID-19 deaths and 489 new cases

Shillong: Meghalaya on Sunday recorded 489 new COVID-19 cases and 7 taking the numbers to 4,434 and 862 respectively so far.

The state also reported 632 recoveries from the viral infection taking the number of the recovered cases up to 46,228, even as the number of confirmed cases so far was registered at 51,524.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the COVID-19 related deaths recorded were five in East Khasi Hills district and one each in Ri-Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district.

He said the new COVID-19 cases recorded on Sunday included 262 in East Khasi Hills district, 71 in West Jaintia Hills district, 57 in West Garo Hills district, 44 in Ri-Bhoi district, 13 in West Khasi Hills district, 12 in South Garo Hills district, nine in East Jaintia Hills district, seven in South West Garo Hills district, five each in South West Khasi Hills district and North Garo Hills district and four cases in East Garo Hills district .

The East Khasi Hills has 1,540 active COVID-19 cases, followed by Ri-Bhoi district with 753 active cases, West Jaintia Hills district with 589 active cases and West Garo Hills district with 498 active cases while the seven other districts of the State have less than 300 active cases each, he said.

As on date, 30,943 health care workers have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose and 20,027 received the second dose. 96,712 frontline-workers got the first jab and 27,322 got the second shot, while 52, 1290 people from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 36,138 are fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state.
