Meghalaya records seven COVID-19 deaths and 188 new cases

Shillong: Meghalaya on Friday recorded seven more COVID-19 deaths, six of whom were not vaccinated against the virus, mounting the number of deceased due to the viral disease to 1,346 and 188 new cases of infection taking the number of active cases up to 2,007.

The State also reported 144 more recoveries pushing the number of recovered cases to 74,524 in the State, which has registered 77,877 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said five deaths were reported from East Khasi Hills district besides one each in West Jaintia Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district.

Out of the 188 new COVID-19 cases, the senior medical official said 101 cases of infections were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 44 in West Khasi Hills district, 17 in Ri-Bhoi district, 12 in West Jaintia Hills district, six in South West Khasi Hills district, three in West Khasi Hills district, two cases each East Garo Hills district and East Jaintia Hills district besides one in South West Garo Hills district.

No fresh cases were detected in North Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district during the past 24 hours. The East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong, is the most COVID-19 affected district with 924 active cases and 930 deaths, followed by West Khasi Hills district with 414 active cases and 59 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 223 active cases and 118 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 178 active cases and 77 deaths, South West Khasi Hills district with 118 active cases and 15 deaths, West Garo Hills district with 82 active cases and 7 deaths, while the other districts had less than 50 active cases each, as per the latest official count.

Till Friday, 1,006,537 persons whose samples were sent for testing in the State with 9,28,660 of them having been tested negative for COVID-19.

On the other hand, 32,044 health care workers have been given the first shot of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 26,296 have been administered with the second shot, 96,956 front-line workers have got the first jab and 71,908 have taken the second shot and 9,13,748 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first shot and 2,45,709 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second shot across the State.
