Meghalaya records 56 recoveries, 53 new COVID-19 cases

Shillong: Meghalaya recorded 56 more recoveries from COVID-19 related complications that surged the number of recovered cases to 81184 and 53 new cases of infection, which added up to 695 active cases on Saturday, health officials said.

So far, the state has registered 83322 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1443 fatalities. The COVID-19 cases detected on Saturday included 34 in East Khasi Hills district, six in West Jaintia Hills district, four in Ri-Bhoi district, three cases each in East Garo Hills district and West Khasi Hills district, two in East Jaintia Hills district and one in West Garo Hills district.

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 cases in the most pandemic-hit East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong has been on the decline with the district recording 37 more cases of recovery from the viral disease on Saturday.

The numbers of active cases in other districts too have come down with West Khasi Hills having 124 cases, 50 in West Jaintia Hills, 33 in Ri-Bhoi, 15 in West Garo Hills, five cases each in East Garo Hills, East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills, four in South West Garo Hills, two in
North Garo Hills and one in South Garo Hills, health officials said.

On the other hand, 32,072 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 27,886 have been administered with the second dose, 96,965 front-line workers have got the first jab and 79,625 have taken the second shot, 9,63,375 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first shot and 4,86,191 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state as on date, health officials said.
