Shillong: Meghalaya recorded 22 new COVID-19 positive cases, which added up to 296 active cases and the death due to the viral infection of one person, who was not vaccinated against the virus in the West Jaintia Hills district, increasing the number of fatalities due to the viral disease to 1475 on Friday, health officials said.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the recovery of 21 more COVID-19 inflicted persons surged the number of recovered cases to 82785 in the state, which has so far registered 84556 confirmed COVID-19 cases, included 17 in East Khasi Hills district, two in East Garo Hills district and one each in West Garo Hills district, West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most pandemic-hit district with 266 active COVID-19 cases and 1001 deaths due to the viral infection, even as the numbers of active cases in other districts have been on a gradual decline.
The West Khasi Hills district had eight active COVID-19 cases, the Ri-Bhoi district had six active cases, East Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district had five active cases each, West Garo Hills district had four active cases and the East Jaintia Hills district had two active cases, while the North Garo Hills district, South Garo Hills district, South West Garo Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district had no case, as per the latest official case count.
Meanwhile, of the 12,15,320 persons testet for Covid-19 in the state till Friday, 11,30,764 persons were tested negative for the virus.
On the other hand, 32,092 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 28,916 have been administered with the second dose, 96,971 front-line workers have got the first jab and 82,969 have taken the second shot, 10,41,560 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 7,07,115 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state as on date, the health official said.
