Meghalaya recorded more fresh COVID-19 than recoveries, no deaths

Shillong: Meghalaya recorded more new COVID-19 cases than recoveries on Tuesday, as 24 more persons tested positive for the viral infection, adding the number of active cases up to 297 in the State, health officials said.

The State also reported 23 more recoveries, mounting the number of recoveries to 82,529, while the total number of confirmed COVID-19 case count in the state is 84,293 so far, health officials said.

On the other hand, the death toll remained unchanged at 1,467 with the State reporting no COVID-19 related death for the third consecutive day.

Director Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said of the new COVID-19 cases, 14 was reported from the East Khasi Hills, which, including state capital Shillong is the most pandemic-hit district with 213 active cases and 994 deaths.

He said five new cases were also detected in West Khasi Hills district, two cases each in East Garo Hills district and West Khasi Hills district one case was reported in Ri-Bhoi district.

Of the 11,96,087 persons tested for COVID-19 across the State till Tuesday, 11,11,794 persons were tested negative for the virus, official data reflected.

As of date, 32,088 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 28,730have been administered with the second dose, 96,970 front-line workers have got the first jab and 82,353 have taken the second shot, 10,20,158 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 6,64,911 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose.
