Shillong: Two minor girls, who were abducted from their homes in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, have been rescued by Meghalaya police from two separate location at Kalain area in Assam’s Cachar district on Friday, police said on Saturday.
However, the two abductees, identified as Saydul Islam and Raju @ Mujib, managed to flee taking advantage of the darkness.
Police said a manhunt is on to arrest them.
The two minors minor girls aged 13 and 14 years old hailing from Khliehriat, the district headquarters of East Jaintia Hills, went missing from September 17, district police chief Jagpal Singh Dhanoa said.
During the course of investigation, Singh said it was transpired that the two minor girls had been taken somewhere in Kalain.
“The police immediately swung into action and engaged reliable sources to trace the location of the two minor girls. A police team from East Jaintia Hills along with the assistance of Assam Police managed to track and rescue the two minor girls from two separate locations in Kalain,” the police official said.
Singh said the rescued minor girls were brought back to Khliehriat safe and are being handed over to CWC after completion of formalities.
