Meghalaya: One HNLC surrenders, another held for planting IED bomb

Meghalaya police spokesperson Gabriel Iangrai said that the accused was arrested from Shillong Civil Hospital for his involvement in planting the bomb at the NPP’a office.

Shillong: One Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant, who had triggered an IED blast at Khliehriat police reserve and Star Cement, has surrendered before Meghalaya police on Thursday, police said.

While another HNLC member, who had planted an IED bomb in front of the office of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) has had also been nabbed.

Meghalaya police spokesperson Gabriel Iangrai said that the accused was arrested from Shillong Civil Hospital for his involvement in planting the bomb at the NPP’a office.

He said that the accused has also admitted to his role, even as police have seized incriminating evidence from his possession Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said Emanuel Suchen surrendered before police officials at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district on Thursday.
Suchen had joined the proscribed HNLC in 2002 and was arrested in 2008, where he was jailed for three years under MPDA and rejoined the outfit.

Rymbui said preliminary interrogation revealed that Suchen was involved in the IED blasts in Star Cement and police reserve at Khliehriat.

“He is being interrogated for further information about his activities,” the Home Minister said, adding that due process of law will be taken as deemed fit by the police department.
