Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said the government is preparing its reply, through an affidavit, on having a roster system in place as directed by the High Court.

“A thorough discussion was held to prepare the state’s response to the court ruling through an affidavit and the discussions would continue over the next couple of days,” Sangma told reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

A division bench of the Meghalaya High Court comprising of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh had stayed all government recruitment processes until a roster system was put in place for appropriate implementation of the reservation policy.

The court ruled that “across state government agencies and instrumentalities” in Meghalaya wherever the reservation policy is in vogue the recruitment process would remain suspended till the state has a roster system.

Noting that the matter is “important” the Chief Minister said the roster system was never prepared since the state’s statehood 50 years back. Sangma said since the matter is important a lot of things have to be discussed before a decision could be made.
