Shillong: Meghalaya Assembly is expected to hold next year’s budget session in the new assembly building at Mawdiangdiang in the New Shillong Township, officials said on Tuesday.

“We are making all attempts to see that the first Budget session will be in that new building,” Lyngdoh said.

The Speaker, who had recently reviewed the ongoing construction of the new building at Mawdiangdiang, said that around 80-85 percent of the work has been completed as far as civil works of the main building is concerned.

“Civil work of the main building is more or less completed and the balance civil work is only the dome part which is part of the main hall. We are waiting for the main structure which is going to come up and all the fabricated structures are ready in Kolkata,” Lynhdoh said.

He said a team of engineers from the state visited the factory recently where it is being made and found that everything was okay as per the specifications.

Lyngdoh said that the dome will be reaching Shillong by the end of July and then the installation of the dome will start. Lyngdoh also informed that as soon as the dome arrives, it will be fitted immediately.

“We are aiming to erect the dome by the end of August,” the Speaker added.

Lyngdoh said the main building will also house the Speaker’s room, the Chief Minister’s room, the Minister’s room, conference hall, canteen, chambers of the Assembly secretariat and also the other rooms related to the Assembly.
