Imphal: For the first time, Dachhabanta Samom, a Meitei from Manipur has been promoted as Director (Interpretation) in Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Indian Parliament.
Born to Kunjeshwar Samom and Samom (O) Nongmaithem Ibemcha Devi of Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai, Imphal, Dachhabanta joined Lok Sabha in 1998 as Executive Officer (I).
He completed his MA (Faculty of Arts) from Zakir Hussain College, Delhi University, and LLB from Campus Law Centre 2, Delhi University.
A good debater throughout his student days, Dachhbanta earlier worked as a journalist at the Directorate of Information and Public Relation (DIPR), Manipur.
His wife, Moirangthem Lilabati, is in charge of the Legal Cell and the Northeast in the National Commission for Women. He has two daughters.
