Imphal: Manipur Police Sports Club, MPSC (C), won the 2nd Imphal West Polo Tournament 2023, organised by the Manipur Horse Riding and Polo Association (MHRPA), defeating Manipur Police Sports Club, MPSC (B), 5-4 in a keenly contested final at the Mapal Kangjeibung here on Saturday.
Both the police teams boast of some of the most highly skilled polo players who have represented the state in a number of national and international polo tournaments. The two teams fought hard for every inch of the field, not yielding any ground to the other.
S Bimol, who incidentally scored all five goals for MPSC (C), opened the team’s account in the first chukker. MPSC (B) on the other hand failed to score any goal in this chukker.
In the 2nd chukker , Bimol fired in two more goals for MPSC (C), while T Pradeep opened the account for MPSC (B) in this round. Abung Khuman scored twice in the third chukker for MPSC (B), while Bimol scored another one for MPSC (C) to make it 4-3 at the end of this chukker.

O Suresh scored for MPSC (B) in the 2.38 minute of the 4th chukker to bring the score to parity. The MPSC (B) managed to ward off attack after attack at the end of the allotted 7 minutes of the chukker, and just as it looked like the match would go into an extra chukker, Bimol scored in the .28th minute of extra time to seal the final match.
MPSC (C ) besides the winner’s trophy, carried home a cash award of Rs 30,000, while MPSC (B) received a cash award of Rs 20,000 along with the runners-up trophy. S Bimol received a cash award of Rs 1000 for being the highest goal scorer in the final match.
Secretary to the Governor and Commissioner CAF and PD, Manipur, Bobby Waikhom; and Chief Advisor, MHRPA, Dr. Ksh. Chourjit Singh, have kindly consented to grace the function as the Chief Guest, President, and Guests of Honour, respectively. Meitei Director, Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur, T. Phulen and N. Tombi Raj Vice-President, Manipur Equestrian Association, attended the closing function of the tournament, as the chief guest, president, and guests of honour, respectively.
