Manipur observes Martyrs’ Day

On this day, India pays homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to secure freedom for India from the oppressive British regime.

Imphal: Manipur joined the Nation in observing Shaheed Diwas or Martyrs’ Day Sunday on the 74th death anniversary of the father of the Nation- Mahatama Gandhi. 

On this day, India pays homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to secure freedom for India from the oppressive British regime.

Governor of Manipur La. Ganesan led the people paying homage by laying wreath to the statue of Mahatama Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Y. Joykumar Singh, Education Minister S. Rajen Singh, MLA, N. Indrajit Singh, Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar, DGP, P. Doungel and top civil and police officials also laid wreath to the statue. 

Two minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighters. Mahatama Gandhi’s favourite bhajan “Raghubati Raghav Raja Ram” was also sung on the occasion.
