Manipur Governor visits Kangpokpi District, listens to grievances

Ganesan said the interaction programme held Tuesday is just like a Janata Darbar where people can raise their problems/issues directly to the authorities.

Imphal: As a part of the ongoing series of visits to different districts and remote areas of the State to take stock of the issues, problems and grievances of people, the Governor of Manipur, La. Ganesan Tuesday visited Saikul Sub-Division in Kangpokpi district. 

In the interaction programme held at Hoikhonei Multipurpose Hall, Thangkanphai village in Sub-Divisional headquarters of Saikul, the Governor interacted with District Level Officers, representatives of Civil Society Organisations and village chiefs. The Governor heard the issues and grievances faced by the people and assured them to take all possible steps as soon as possible. 

Addressing the gathering, Governor Ganesan said the interaction programme held Tuesday is just like a Janata Darbar where people can raise their problems/issues directly to the authorities. He said it is an opportunity through which genuine grievances can be put up to the higher authorities for necessary action. Issues raised in the programme will be sent to the concerned authorities and if necessary to the Chief Minister. 

The Governor further said that as a citizen, we should respect our freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives for the nation. As the nation is going to celebrate the 75th years of Independence this year, we all should work for the betterment of our country. While stating that there should be an inclusive development in the country, he said, a number of schemes have been implemented and people have been benefited through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly through their bank accounts. Governor said, banking sector is taking a lead role in this direction and all should at least open a bank account.

Expressing concern over the increasing number of Covid cases in the State, Governor said, vaccination is the only means to fight the pandemic. He urged people to get vaccinated and stay safe. On elimination of Tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, he asked the District Administration to conduct door to door survey and find out TB cases. On drug abuse and trafficking, Governor appealed to co-operate the government in fighting the menace and asked everyone to stand against drugs. Governor also spoke on the importance of the New Education Policy and its implementation.

MLA Kimneo Hangshing, said that the maiden visit by a Governor to Saikul shows that the head of the State cares about the people there. She said, she is committed to all-around development in her constituency and the State and all should co-operate with the development works. 

Earlier, Kuki Students Organisation and Kuki Inpi, Saikul submitted a memorandum to the Governor and urged to address the issues at the earliest.  Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi   Kengoo Zuringla, also spoke on the importance of the interaction programme. Bobby Waikhom, Secretary to Governor accompanied Governor on the visit. People from different villages in the Saikul area attended the programme.
