Manipur announces closure of all schools till 24 July as Covid cases rise

Meanwhile, the upward climb of positive cases in Manipur continued on Tuesday with 59 persons from the general public testing positive in the last 24 hours leading up to 5 pm.

Imphal: Considering the rise in Covid positive cases in the State, the Manipur government Tuesday announced closure of all schools with immediate effect till 24 July in the “public interest”.

The order has been issued considering there has been a recent increase in the absolute number of Covid-19 positive cases and the positivity ratio is over 15 % in the State and children below twelve years of age are yet to be vaccinated, thus increasing their vulnerability to get infected by COVID-19, said a statement issued by the State Education department. 

Meanwhile, the upward climb of positive cases in Manipur continued on Tuesday with 59 persons from the general public testing positive in the last 24 hours leading up to 5 pm.

During the same period, there was no report of any Covid-related deaths while 15 persons recovered, as per an official release from the Health Department. 

Of the 59 persons who tested positive from the general population, 25 are from Imphal West, 21 from Imphal East, three from Chandel, two each from Kamjong and Senapati, and one each from Bishnupur, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Noney, Thoubal, and Ukhrul. Altogether, 379 persons were tested, amounting to a positivity rate of 15.6%. 

All the 15 persons who recovered are from home isolation. The recovery rate of the state as of Tuesday stands at 98.30 %.

The cumulative number of positive cases in the state now stands at 1, 37, 543 out of which 1, 35, 207 have recovered leaving 216 active cases in the state.

As of July 11, 2022, 133 D-type oxygen cylinders and 19 B-type oxygen cylinders have been made available at different health facilities in Manipur.

The status of Covid Hospital facilities in the state as of July 12, 2022, is as follows: JNIMS has a total of 14 beds out of which five are occupied while nine are vacant. RIMS has 47 beds out of which four are occupied and 43 are vacant. 

 The total number of doses administered on July 11, is 2,671, the cumulative number of doses administered is 29,87,155 (1st dose 15,98,827, 2nd dose 12,67,469) and precautionary dose is 1,20,854.
