Imphal: The BJP is working hard to keep its herd together ahead of Manipur poll. In every election in Manipur most aspiring candidates rush towards the ruling party as it is considered beneficial to contest as a ruling party candidate.
The BJP headquarters at Imphal and all its branches were on Saturday guarded by Manipur police and security personnel to stop occurrence of any poll related violence.
The state unit is expecting announcement of party tickets from New Delhi and hence entry of people and visitors to the BJP offices was also strictly monitored by security personnel as those who were denied tickets may create problems.
During the last three days most journalists and ticket aspirants were waiting for announcement of the list of candidates at the BJP tickets only to be told that a final decision is awaited. According to Manipur Party Chief, A Sharda the state unit has already submitted the list to the central leaders.
BJP leaders said some fake lists were in circulation in various social media platforms which were creating confusion. BJP sources said the party leadership hold series of talks with the intending candidates to ask them not to change side if the party ticket was denied to them.
Except few constituencies most ticket aspirants were not in agreement with the arrangement hence fearing desertion by those who were denied tickets, the BJP leadership has not yet been able to announce ticket for the polls scheduled on Feb 27 and Mar 3 next.
The Congress party, NPP have already announced the first list of candidates and the JD(U) will be fielding two former MLAs , one of Congress and another Independent.
The Congress party has formed alliance with five other political parties and will announce the second list later. The NPP and JD(U) were expecting of new leaders into their fold.
