New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated new Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and said he looks forward to working with him to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

In a tweet, Prime Minister Modi said: “Congratulations and best wishes to the new Prime Minister of Japan, H.E. Kishida Fumio. I look forward to working with him to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership and advance peace and prosperity in our region and beyond.”

On Monday, Japan’s Parliament elected former diplomat Fumio Kishida as the new Prime Minister.

He replaces Yoshihide Suga, who resigned after only one year in office.
