Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh emphasized the invaluable role of mothers in our lives, stating that everything we are and achieve is because of them. He urged people to honor their mothers by planting trees in their names.
Speaking at a tree plantation drive at Lamlai Chingpu Sabi Lairembi in Imphal East, organized by the Forest and Environment Department as part of the 75th Van Mahotsav 2024 celebration under the theme “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam, CM Biren Singh highlighted the crucial relationship between humans and nature.
“Nature doesn’t need human beings, but we need nature,” he said. “If we want to protect our environment and tackle the emerging challenges from nature, the only solution is to preserve our ecology and environment.”
The Chief Minister noted that the Mahotsav had been celebrated annually with limited success. However, after an innovative approach introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Van Mahotsav has seen significant progress in recent weeks, with an estimated 1.4 crore trees planted. Manipur will also join the drive by planting nearly 70 lakh in next few months, he added.
During the program, the Chief Minister assured that a water supply scheme will be set up in every village of the constituency. Eleven football grounds of International standards will be developed in the State, he added. Out of which, a football ground is being developed in Lamlai AC under the scheme.
While delivering his Presidential speech, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister, Thongam Biswajit Singh stated that 140 crores tree saplings will be planted under the “Ek Ped: Maa ke Naam” across the country. Van Mahotsav is being observed to spread awareness among the students, youth and masses to protect, conserve and preserve the forest. Speaking on the importance of trees and forest, he encouraged the public to plant more trees in the State.
The programme was attended by Fisheries Minister Heikham Dingo Singh, Chairman Hill Area Committee Dinganglung Gangmei, MLAs, officials of Forest Department, students, and residents of Lamlai.
