Imphal: BJP legislator Rajkumar Imo Singh Wednesday urged the Union government to initiate appropriate action against the officials of Tata-owned Air India Airlines for changing the address of ATO Imphal Airport to ATO Imphal Airport, Lamka on its tickets.

Interestingly, the Churachandpur district of  Manipur, the present hotspot of ethnic violence in the northeastern state, was recently found using “Lamka” instead by a few tribal leaders after the violence started on May 3.

“It’s come to our knowledge through various social media platforms that a few Air India tickets have mentioned the ATO office of Imphal, Manipur as Air India, ATO Imphal Airport, Lamka,” Imo said in a letter addressed to Union Aviation Minister Jyotiradiya Scindia.

“This is totally unacceptable on the part of Air India to have made this gross error and act of negligence/conspiracy to have altered the name from Imphal to Lamka in the official tickets,” the BJP legislator said.

Imo said there is only one airport in the whole state of Manipur in the capital city of Imphal. Thus,  there can be no error of judgement that an adjoining airport name has been tagged, BJP added.

Asking the Union Minister to look into this matter seriously and ensure that the original name of the ATO stands corrected in the tickets of Air India and that such acts are never repeated in future, Imo also urged him to investigate and take appropriate action against the official of Air India and any other officials involved from any organisation or government.

Adequate punishment should be given to those involved so that it’s never repeated again, Imo concluded.
