Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Assembly was adjourned for the day on Friday after the Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) members disrupted the proceedings in protest against former Kerala Electricity Minister and CPI(M) leader MM Mani MLA’s offensive remarks against Vadakara MLA and RMP leader KK Rama.

Courting a controversy, the CPI(M) leader on Thursday said “Here a great woman spoke against the Chief Minister and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government. She became a widow and that is her fate. We are not responsible for it.”

When the House assembled this morning, Opposition members who stood on their feet, shouted slogans against MM Mani and displayed banners, demanding an apology from the CPM leader for his remarks against KK Rama.

The former minister representing the Udumbanchola Assembly constituency made the remarks while speaking during a discussion on the request for funds from the Home Department on Thursday evening.

Owing to the Opposition ruckus, Speaker MB Rajesh suspended the Question Hour and the Zero Hour and adjourned the House for the day.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan said the former minister’s speech was cruel, insulting, and indecent.

He also criticized the Chief Minister and the Speaker for their silent support of the former minister’s remarks.

The CPM was hunting KK Rama whose husband TP Chandrasekharan was brutally hacked to death with 51 stabs by the CPM workers, VD Satheesan alleged.

Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said the RMP leader KK Rama became a widow like many other women because of the murder politics of CPI(M) in the State.
