Imphal: Sapam Nishikant from Keishamthong Assembly constituency will be contesting as an independent candidate in the ensuing 12th Manipur Assembly election.
Nishikant is among a host of intending BJP candidates who missed out in the final list announced by the Central Election Committee of BJP Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to his workers and well-wishers at a public meeting held at Malom Sunday afternoon soon after the announcement of the list by the BJP, Nishikant said he joined politics because of the BJP and its ideology.
He, however, said he was surprised at the way he was dropped from the list as he believed he topped in the survey but was given zero in the report.
Nishikant also announced that even though he is not contesting on the BJP ticket, he would win the election and would join the party and become a minister whether the BJP wins a majority in the election or not.
He said he would never join any other party or the Congress, even if it gives him the Chief Ministerial post. Given the current circumstances, he would now contest as an Independent candidate, he announced.
