Violence in Manipur as those denied BJP tickets protest

Irate BJP workers blocked roads at Tiddim Road and other places, as the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors at Sagolband, Keishamthong constituencies.

Imphal: Angry BJP supporters blocked roads, burnt party flags and effigies of leaders in various parts of Manipur on Sunday in protest against the denial of party tickets to some aspirants for the upcoming assembly polls.

The BJP announced the full list of candidates for the 60-seat Manipur Assembly earlier in the day, dropping three sitting MLS and giving tickets to ten former Congress legislators and a lawmaker of the Trinamool Congress.

Irate BJP workers blocked roads at Tiddim Road and other places, as the police fired tear gas shells to disperse the protestors at Sagolband, Keishamthong constituencies.

A large number of people came out in the streets shouting slogans against BJP leaders for denying tickets to party workers and giving the tickets to turncoats.

BJP workers at Sagolband blocked roads and claimed that Khwairakpam Loken Singh had been building up BJP in the constituency for the last ten years and lost the last Assembly elections by a few votes However the ticket was given to RK Imo, son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren.

RK Imo. a former Congress MLA, had joined the BJP recently. Protests were also reported in Kakching, Moirang, Wangkhei and other constituencies where ticketS WERE given to Congress leaders who recently joined the BJP.

Meanwhile, security was beefed up at all vulnerable places. The protestors said they will continue the fight against the dynasty politics of BJP and the denial of party tickets to BJP workers.
