J&K: Mentally challenged man killed mother, two others in Anantnag

The incident took place at Aishmuqam when an alleged mentally challenged man identified as Javed Hassan Rather attacked several persons including his parents with lathi during which his mother and two other persons died and six others sustained injuries.

Srinagar: At least three persons, including a woman, were killed and several others injured when a mentally challenged person attacked them with lathi in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

The incident took place at Aishmuqam when an alleged mentally challenged man identified as Javed Hassan Rather attacked several persons including his parents with lathi during which his mother and two other persons died and six others sustained injuries.

The accused first attacked his family members and later went on rampage and beat others in the area.

The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment where their condition is stated to be out of danger, Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Pahalgam Syed Naseer told UNI.

He said that in an unfortunate incident an unsound person killed three persons and injured several others. The accused has been nabbed, he added.

The deceased have been identified as attackers mother Hafiza Bagum, Ghulam Nabi Khadim, and Mohammad Ameen Shah.
