Kolhapur: International ranking chess player Pankaj Pawar and Zahir Farukhi majestically entered in final round with defeating their rivals world champion Sandeep Dive and Girish Tambe respectively in state ranking Carrom competition, held at Shree Ram Society Hall in Kasba Bavda a suburb of the city which organized by Aayub Jamadar Foundation with recognise by State Carrom Association and Kolhapur District Chess Association (KDCA).
In first semifinal, Pankaj Pawar defeated world champion Sandeep Dive and entered in final round majestically while in second semifinal Zahur Farukhi easily defeated Girish Tambe and entered in final round.
Earlier in quarter final round world champion Sandeep Dive defeated Rohit Chaugule, who had yesterday registered a historic and shocking victory over world runners up Prashant More. Even Rohit took leader by 4-0 over Sandeep in first game, Sandeep took lead in next four games with 1-0 but even after equated by Rohit with taking second game by 17-15, Sandeep defeated Rohit straight in third game by 25-6 and entered in semifinal round.
In close second quarter-final between two International ranking chess players Pankaj Pawar and Abhijit Tirpankar, Pankaj defeated Abhijit by 25/16 at the end of third game. In third quarter final game Zahir Farukhi beat Abhishek Chavan(Ratnagiri) by 25/8,24/8 and entered in semifinal while in fourth match Girish Tambe(Mumbai) beat Rahul Solanki by 25/8, 24/9 and entered in semifinal. The matches tobe held for three to eight numbers.
