Indian Forest Service officers call on Meghalaya Governor

During the interaction, the Governor raised his concern on the overall improvement of Forest and biodiversity in the country and urged the officers to proactively contribute to the conservation of forests and biodiversity.

Shillong: A group of officers of Indian Forest Service undergoing a five-day training on Environment Impact Assessment and Auditing from 20-24 May at Shillong, called on Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan at Raj Bhavan, here on Tuesday. 

During the interaction, the Governor raised his concern on the overall improvement of Forest and biodiversity in the country and urged the officers to proactively contribute to the conservation of forests and biodiversity. 

Dr. K. Ravichandran, Director Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal highlighted the significance of the process of EIA to safeguard the environment and rich biodiversity of our country.  He further informed the Hon’ble Governor on the two post graduate programs namely post graduate diploma in forestry Management and post graduate diploma in sustainability management as well as various research and training programs conducted by IIFM for different government agencies. 

He also apprised the Governor regarding the progress that India has made in the forestry sector in India to increase the Forest cover of the country.

A total of 26 officers from various states of the country are attending this program. The program highlights on the various legislative tools related to the environmental protection, forest laws, impact assessment and mitigation and preparation of environment management plan and other attendant issues dealt with in the process of EIA in India. 

Also present in the meeting was the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Harish Chandra Chaudhary, IFS.
