Indian Army celebrates World Athletics Day in NE states

The youth actively participated in track and field events, along with a friendly volleyball match, promoting an active and healthier lifestyle among the local community.

Imphal: The Indian Army commemorated World Athletics Day – 2024, in the North-Eastern states with sports and patriotic fervor showcasing commitment to promoting athleticism, camaraderie and a healthy lifestyle among the youth.

In Daisajan, Jagun, and Margherita area of Assam, over 200 local students and youth participated in various Athletics competitions including 100m race, 200m race, 400m relay race, 1200m race, long jump, high jump, shot put, and javelin throw. The participants were felicitated with prizes at the end of the events. 

Simultaneously, in Manipur, an Athletics Meet was hosted at Maa Foundation School in T Loklaphai, Churachandpur. The enthusiastic participation of around 70 students in events such as the 100m race, 400m race, 50m Relay Race, and Sack race showcased the spirit of healthy competition and sportsmanship. Prizes including school bags, stationery kits and sports equipment for indoor games were distributed.

Additionally, in the Imphal East district of Manipur, Indian Army personnel celebrated World Athletics Day with locals in Island Village. The youth actively participated in track and field events, along with a friendly volleyball match, promoting an active and healthier lifestyle among the local community.

These initiatives underscore the Indian Army’s commitment to foster a culture of sportsmanship, physical fitness, and camaraderie among youth across the region.

Medical camp in Moreh 

Indian Army conducted an informative medical camp cum awareness session at Primary School, D. Monaphai village, Moreh on Mumps virus. Causes of spread and precautionary measures were covered in detail. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of about 180 villagers including women, elderly and children.     

The lecture aimed to educate the local community about the symptoms, transmission, medication and preventive measures of the mumps virus. The lecture also emphasized the importance of vaccination and maintaining good hygiene practices.

Interactive sessions were held to address queries and dispel myths surrounding the disease. Post-lecture medical check-up was also carried out most of the attendees.
