New Delhi: Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari on Tuesday said three airbases have come up in China across LAC and also expressed concern over the construction of airfields in Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
“Chinese PLA Air Force is present at three airbases across Eastern Ladakh. Talks are on for disengagement,” the Air Force Chief said at a press conference, his first after taking charge.
He added that it has no effect on the air operations of the Indian Air Force.
Asked about reports of airfields coming up in the PoK, including one near the Afghanistan border, the Air Force Chief called it a matter of concern.
“We need to be alarmed about airfields in PoK. Right now they are just airstrips. One near the Afghan border might be for evacuations,” said the IAF chief.
“Though airfields is being developed, hardened shelters have been built, launching a mission from high altitude will be a challenge to them,” he said.
In his address, the newly appointed Air Force Chief talked about the emerging challenges and the changing geopolitical situation.
“Past few years have been unprecedented, series of events have brought forth several challenges. Changing geopolitical situation makes it important to always be ready to respond,” he said.
He also said that the S-400 anti-aircraft weapon system would be inducted by the IAF by the end of this year.
