Husband sentenced to life for killing wife

Based on a complaint, police had arrested Matosin and after a long hearing, he is sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under IPC section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

Agartala: The North Tripura district and sessions court sentenced one Matosin Ali to life imprisonment yesterday after being convicted for killing his wife in 2018.

After a long trial, the court found him guilty on the charge of killing his wife by setting her afire following a domestic dispute.

Police said Matosin, a resident of East Phulbari village under Churaibari police station had poured kerosene on his wife, Tahamina Begum and set her ablaze while she was cooking in the afternoon. She succumbed to 90 per cent of burn injuries at the hospital on the next day.

Based on a complaint, police had arrested Matosin and after a long hearing, he is sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under IPC section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.

He is also sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 10,000 under IPC section 498.
