Hamirpur (HP): Himachal Pradesh government’s HIMCARE health scheme is proving to be a boon for thousands of poor, lower-middle, and middle-class families as they do not have to worry about money even for the treatment of serious diseases, it was reported here on Thursday.

The state government has made a provision for free treatment of such people through HIMCARE cards.

One of such patients, Pawana Devi, who is admitted in the Gainee Ward of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, is now getting her treatment absolutely free under the HIMCARE scheme.

The Corona period had brought a big crisis for the entire family of Pawana Devi of village Haur in the Jaladi area of the Nadaun sub-division. Her husband, who was in a private job in Delhi, lost his job during the Corona crisis and in the meantime, Pawana Devi contracted a serious infection related to the uterus. Due to which it became difficult for her to work on her farm and look after the domestic cattle.
Moreover, due to low income, it became difficult for Pawana Devi to sustain her family.

During this time, Pawana Devi got information about the HIMCARE scheme of the Himachal Pradesh government. She immediately got a HIMCARE card made for her and the family. Through this card, her free treatment started.

Giving heartfelt thanks to the Himachal Pradesh government, Pawana Devi said that if she had not gotten the HIMCARE card made, her timely treatment would not have been possible and her disease would have become more serious.

Chief Medical Officer Dr RK Agnihotri said that like Pawana Devi, thousands of people were taking advantage of the HIMCARE scheme in Hamirpur district.

He said that the Himachal Pradesh government has started the scheme to provide free treatment facilities to the people left out of the Ayushman Bharat scheme of the central government. 5 members of a family can take advantage of this scheme.
The Chief Medical Officer said that so far 66,133 HIMCARE cards have been made in the Hamirpur district.
