Haryana police seize 136 pistols, other weapons in massive crackdown

Director-General of Police (DGP) Manoj Yadava said that during the drive, 185 cases were registered against the persons for their alleged involvement in illegal activities.

Chandigarh: Haryana Police has seized 136 country-made pistols, 41 desi katta, two revolvers, 228 cartridges, 12 magazines, 19 knives and one sword from different areas of the state during a special fortnight long drive.

Stating this here on Monday, Director General of Police (DGP) Manoj Yadava said that during the drive, 185 cases were registered against the persons for their alleged involvement in illegal activities.

In an effort to combat organized crime, the DGP said that our STF on May 1 also arrested the most-wanted dreaded gangster Sube Gujjar. Carrying a bounty of Rs 7.5 lakh on his arrest, he was wanted by police of Haryana and other neighbouring states.

He also congratulated the STF and other teams who are actively engaged in putting various notorious and dreaded criminals behind bars.

Stepping up vigil, police teams have also nabbed 216 proclaimed offenders (POs) and 230 bail jumpers during the drive. The maximum numbers of POs (30) were arrested from Gurugram, followed by Karnal (20) and Faridabad (18). Our State Crime Bureau has also managed to put 42 POs behind bars.

In addition, Police have also booked 560 persons under Gambling Act after it recovered over Rs 21.29 lakh as stake money from their possession.

Mr Yadava said that in the present situation of Covid pandemic, the crackdown on criminal and anti-social elements would continue with highly visible police patrolling to make sure that criminals could not take advantage of trying times in any manner.

“A special drive was conducted between April 1 to 15 to tighten the noose on those against possessing illegal weapons and other offenders in the state. Our crime and other units have played a significant role in making the drive a huge success”, he added.
