Governor suggests for FSSAI office in Arunachal

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra suggested having an office of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) in the state so that it can provide scientific advice and technical support to the State Government in the matter of food safety and nutrition, when Col Pramod Dahitule, Director, Eastern and North Eastern Region, FSSAI, called on him here on Tuesday.

During the meeting at Raj Bhavan, they discussed about the ingredients, manufacture, preservative additions, storage, shelf life, distribution and sale of food items in fit conditions to promote health and safety for human consumption.

The Governor emphasised on the Director to also take on the duty of promoting general awareness about food safety and food standards amongst the consumers in the state. He also asked them to conduct training programmes for entrepreneurs who are into food-producing and distribution business.

Above all the health protection of the consumers should be the prime concern of the food items manufacturers, he observed.
