Governor Ganesan, CM Biren extend greetings on 73rd republic day

On this occasion we should revere and offer our homage to those founding fathers for their foresight and and understanding, La Ganesan said.

Imphal: Manipur Governor La Ganesan and Chief Minister N Biren extended their heartfelt greetings and warm wishes to the people of Manipur on the joyous occasion of 73rd Republic Day.

In his message, the Governor said it was on this day in 1950, that we gave ourselves our Constitution which is the guiding principle of our country. Despite reservations from various quarters, the experiment of democracy in India has been successful and we are going from strength to strength, respected by other nations, he added.

On this occasion we should revere and offer our homage to those founding fathers for their foresight and and understanding, La Ganesan said.

The Governor also remarked that the country is poised to become one of the leading nations of the world. Its progress in science and technology backed by a young and dynamic population will usher the country to greater heights. We have, however, to harness the potential of our youth in the right direction so that they become our main assets of future.

Despite its large population many of whom were illiterate, successive election have show the maturity of the electors and aspirations of the people are reflected in the ballot. From a fledging democracy, we have now become a mature one, the governor said.

In his message, the Chief Minister said, “Every year, 26th January is celebrated with festivities and patriotic fervour all around the country. It commemorates the enactment of the Constitution of India which came into full force on January 26, 1950 and made our country a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic Republic”.

He further said, “This day also reminds us of our Freedom Struggle and how the great freedom fighters of the country sacrificed their lives to get us the Purna Swaraj. It is because of their struggle that today we are living in a democratic country where every citizen enjoys the Fundamental Rights enshrined in our Constitution. Today, we also remember all great men and women who contributed in framing of our Constitution”.

Chief Minister Biren called on all to “reaffirm our unwavering commitment to uphold the ideals of our Constitution, advocate unity in diversity, fraternity and equality among all our citizens and strengthen our republic. Let us also commit ourselves to appreciate and observe our Fundamental Duties”.
