Shillong: With fasts and daylong prayer services in churches, Christians in Meghalaya Friday observed Good Friday, marking the crucification of Jesus Christ.
Hundreds of faithful of the Roman Catholic Church took out a procession to the Calvary at the Cathedral Church of Mary Help of Christians here in Shillong, the state capital of Meghalaya.
“Good Friday is of great significance to the Christian community because it signifies the love that Jesus has for and the world witness this by his tragic death on his own choice,” Marian Sohtun said.
Other church denominations like the Presbyterian Church and the Baptist Church held their service. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma attended the Good Friday mass at St. Paul Parish Upper Shillong this afternoon.
“May this #GoodFriday remind us about God’s unfailing love. May His teachings strengthen our faith and may His grace and blessings stay with each of us,” Sangma tweeted.
