Assam Rifles holds talks with Nepal Army Chief

Shillong: Assam Rifles Chief, Lieutenant General Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair has held talks with Nepal Army Chief Prabhuram Sharma at Kathmandu, an official statement said on Friday.

Nair discussed various steps and schemes being initiated by Assam Rifles for the Assam Rifles Ex-Servicemen of Nepal. The Assam Rifles Chief also interacted with Indian Ambassador to Nepal and other officials of the Indian Embassy.

Nair also attended an Ex-Servicemen rally of Assam Rifles at Pokhara, Nepal on Thursday. A total of 113 grievances were registered during the rally out of which 45 were resolved on the spot. During the Rally monetary benefits were given to two ESMs.

Former Gallantry Awardees, War Veterans, Veer Naris, other ladies & disabled Ex- Servicemen were also felicitated. The rally was also attended by Officers, from HQ DGAR and Defence Wing of Embassy of India.

The Assam Rifles has 46 battalions, 15 of which are deployed along the 1,643-km long unfenced India-Myanmar border.

The porous frontier, with its rugged terrain is used by Indian insurgent groups to slip in and out of the country.
