Itanagar: In a suspected human trafficking case, Arunachal Pradesh Police in coordination with Assam Police on Friday busted an inter-state trafficking racket and rescued four minor girls from a guest house in Guwahati. The cops also apprehended one accused woman in this regard, a senior police officer said on Saturday.

The minor girls, aged 14-15 years, all hailing from Manabhum under Diyun circle in Arunachal’s Changlang district were allegedly lured with offers of job/money and taken to the Assam capital by train. They were rescued within 24 hours.

One Nibidita Chanda of Diyun was arrested for her dubious role after a raid at her ‘Ornet Naga Guest House’, the Assam Police said, while adding that the rescued girls were sent home with an APP team. Further probe is on.

Meanwhile, Changlang district Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo, when contacted, said that a missing report about the teenage girls was lodged at the Diyun police station on Thursday.

During the investigation, it was suspected that the girls may have left with the accused lady. A case of kidnapping was registered against the woman, the SP said.

The police then tracked down her location using her phone number which was traced in Guwahati. The recovery was made with the help of the Assam Police. The victims and the accused were brought to Diyun on Saturday morning, he said.

Asked whether the girls were being trafficked, the SP said the matter is under investigation. “It looks like a case of human trafficking but cannot come to a conclusion as yet. We are still investigating,” he further added.
