Agartala: Rising alleging large-scale corruption and lack of coordination in the administration, former MLA, a veteran politician of Tripura, and head of the non-tribal wing of royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman’s party TIPRA Motha Tapas Dey on Monday wrote to Governor Nallu Indrasena Reddy demanding to release a white paper on the functioning of the government.
Citing an example of the recent recovery of a newborn tribal girl from another couple who was allegedly sold by the father at Rs 30,000 owing to abject poverty, Dey claimed District Magistrate Khowai Chandni Chandran confessed in front of the camera that one Khuken Debbarma, a resident of remote Banshipara of Haludia ADC village in Khowai district, sold his two-day-old daughter to Ranjit Tripura of Karbok on November 22, three days after the baby was rescued.
The accused, Khuken Debbarma, has also stated to the police during interrogation that he had to sell the daughter because of a severe financial crisis in the family, as he has two more sons and one daughter already, and the couple couldn’t afford to manage their fourth child.
As a result, as soon as his wife conceived, they contacted the childless couple Ranjit Tripura, who paid Rs 30,000 for the daughter besides all expenses of the mother during pregnancy and delivery, Dey stated.
In contrast to the statement of the District Magistrate, the senior most minister of the state government, Ratan Lal Nath, rebutted the glaring truth and threw an open challenge to the incident. But the chief minister could not rely on him and got the matter investigated by the district administration, which found that the news item was true, he alleged.
Social media is abuzz with the abysmal failure of the state government to maintain its integrity and its unholy attempt to shield the truth with an ulterior motive through dubious means, Dey said, adding, “Recently, it appeared the statements of ministers and the information of the administration were differing from each other, and the people became confused. Since there is no coordination, the development of the state comes to a complete halt, and the suffering of the people becomes multiple.”
He further claimed in the letter that the Rural Development Department is mired in unheard-of corruption and demanded the publication of a white paper detailing everything in the hour of need.
