Flood situation in Assam grim; more than 1.33 lakh people affected

Guwahati: Flood situation in Assam has turned worse with more than 1.33 lakh people being affected in 11 districts of the state.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) statement, the worst affected five districts are Bongaigaon (63,891 people affected), Dhemaji (31,500), Majuli (13,239), Dibrugarh (10,697) and Chirang (10,634).

Over 7,584 hectares of crop areas having been flooded, officials said.
According to the ASDMA, 243 villages were affected and 74 relief camps were opened for the help of the flood-affected.

Many roads, bridges, embankments, culverts and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in several districts, the ASDMA bulletin said.
Erosion has been reported from several places in Baksa, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Goalpara, Cachar, Jorhat, Kokrajhar, Majuli, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts.
